🎉 Jodie Watson’s Home Hen Party – Galston Bowling Club 🎉

🎧 Six hours on the decks delivering a broad playlist: 80s/90s/00s, pop, R&B, disco/house, GBX anthems and sing-along classics.

🎤 Guest singing performances and requests kept the dancefloor energy peaked all night. Structured 😂 party games for the bride-to-be & guests (memory moments quiz, dance-offs & sing-offs) with prize giveaways throughout the night.

Clear announcements, tight changeovers, and a steady build from warm-up to peak time. Thanks to Galston Bowling Club for the hospitality and to everyone who got involved. 🥂

🙌 Congratulations to Shannon & Reece who celebrated their home coming wedding at The Terrace Suite at The Potting Shed at Si in Irvine. The couple tied the knot in Las Vegas in the Summer.

A full night of entertainment with a bit Elvis thrown in for good measure + a Roulette Table & Vegas-themed photobooth. The dance-floor was packed from the opening track through to Loch Lomond at midnight. Our first time performing at this splendid venue - hopefully we will be back soon. Irvine certainly knows how to party!

🍾 Another superb wedding event at the Piersland House Hotel in Troon for Nicola & Tony, the NEW Mr & Mrs Sockell. One of the finest, traditional wedding venues in Ayrshire. A courteous gathering of wedding guests who came to party. Probably the most guest requests I have had in recent times (20+ tracks) and managed to cover them all: Bananarama, T-Rex, Wild Cherry, Belinda Carlisle, Van Halen, New Radicals, Plommons, Nirvana, Bronski Beat, Katrina & The Waves, Gloria Gaynor, Steps, RedNex, Phil Collins & Billy Ocean to name a few.

👉 Thanks to the venue staff, who were hard working and extremely helpful (just like every venue we visit). As a wedding DJ you see a little behind the scenes happenings, and flipping the room from daytime dinners to evening dancing is always a timed challenge for the staff. Removing glasses & cutlery, bagging table covers for laundry, quick hoover, cake presentation set up, seating & table re-configuration and rolling back and moving a 6 x 10m carpet to reveal the dancefloor underneath & room entry for the newly weds. It is mesmerising to watch and the Piersland staff smashed it in 40 minutes!

🙌 The Process Of Being A Standout Wedding DJ 🙌

✅ Communicate with your couple beforehand in the lead up(several times if required).
✅ Memorise key tracks: entrance music, cake cutting, first dances & parent dances.
✅ Request a playlist in advance for an insight into music preferences.
✅ Visit the venue in advance of your event if you haven't played there before. Check power points, access, setup area and chat to venue management and introduce yourself. NEVER rock up to a venue without visiting in advance!
✅ Arrive at the venue well in advance of your start time: plenty time to set up equipment and trouble-shoot, speak to venue staff, chat to the wedding couple and mingle & introduce yourself to guests before you fire up your music.
✅ Engage with your audience via the mic, not too much but don't be silent! Music aside, the mic is your magic wand to control the crowd.
✅ Make sure all your tech is up to date and operational.
✅ Carry spare cables, fuses and a mini toolkit. My speaker tripod malfunctioned last night and had to apply a running repair.
✅ Respond to, and encourage guest music requests. Every guest should go up the road hearing at least one (if not more) tracks they liked.
✅ Be ready to entertain all age ranges, from young kids through to pensioners and everyone in between.
✅ Bring back up music formats, be prepared if your laptop crashes, your mixer fuse blows or your USB is goosed - The show must always go on!
✅ Enjoy yourself at all times. If you don't look as though you are enjoying your own tunes, how can you expect your guests to participate.
✅ Always try to improve, review how your performance went and reflect on how the night panned out and feed the learning into your next event.

I have DJ'd well over 3000 times in clubs and bars over the years since I had my first public paid gig in 1986 and entertaining a room full of wedding guests is thee most challenging DJ experience you will encounter. If you can rock a wedding for 5 hours to a room of 150 guests you have never met....you can pretty much DJ in any other environment!

A nice touch from Tony the groom at the end of the night thanking me publically on the mic for my musical services + Mr Sockell Senior approached me in the car park showing his appreciation for the performance also. Feeling the ❤️

We have just about recovered from Adriana & Kenneth's twilight wedding at Coats Paisley - WE 💞 THIS VENUE. The dance floor energy was off the charts from first dance to last dance. Great to meet both sides of the bride and groom's family and friends. Special mention to Adriana's relatives who had travelled from Slovakia - they know how to party and brought a few bottles of Goral - Malinovica, a highly revered spirit in Slovakia. I was kindly donated a miniature to try! As always, kudos to the venue staff for all their hard work and the food was delightful - steak pie dinner before my set.
